The Graduate School honors several faculty and students throughout the year for their extraordinary contributions and continued excellence in serving their community at ÒÁµéÔ°ÊÓÆµ (ÒÁµéÔ°ÊÓÆµ). We celebrate each award recipient and thank you for being dedicated to achieving and sustaining excellence in educational and scholarly pursuits. Reign on!

Student Awards
Graduate Student Scholarships
The Graduate School is now accepting nominations for four graduate scholarships to be awarded in the 2026-2027 academic year: the Alumni Association’s Outstanding Scholar Fellowships (2), the Meredith Construction Company Scholarship, and the Graduate School General Scholarship.
Although eligibility criteria vary by award (see criteria below), the nomination process is the same for all scholarships.
Nomination packets must be submitted as a single PDF and uploaded through completion of . You must be signed-in to your google account using your ÒÁµéÔ°ÊÓÆµ.EDU email or you will not be able to access the form.
A separate nomination packet is required for each scholarship. The nomination deadline is Friday, February 27, 2026.
Each nomination packet PDF must include, in this order:
- A letter of nomination from the GPD, program director/coordinator, or faculty member outlining the student’s qualifications
- An unofficial transcript
- A student goals statement (maximum 500 words)
- The student’s curriculum vitae (CV) or resume
The awards are not discipline specific. One of the Alumni Association Outstanding Scholar Fellowships must be awarded to an ÒÁµéÔ°ÊÓÆµ alumna or alumnus. Students currently holding an assistantship may be nominated for any or all awards. International students should consult the VISA Office to confirm eligibility.
Criteria for the The Meredith Construction Company Scholarship:
- Active graduate student
- Demonstrates academic excellence
- GPA of 3.75 or higher

- Active graduate student
- Must be enrolled in three or more graduate credit hours
- One fellowship will go to an ÒÁµéÔ°ÊÓÆµ alumnus or alumna (must have graduated by
- December 2025)
- Final undergraduate GPA 3.50 and current graduate GPA 3.50

- Must be a full-time student in the Graduate School.
- Must demonstrate extraordinary academic merit.
- GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The Graduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (G-RISE) program of ÒÁµéÔ°ÊÓÆµ is tailored to enhance diversity among students pursuing Ph.D. degrees in various biomedical research disciplines. Its goal is to bolster representation of underrepresented groups in the biomedical research workforce. The G-RISE program empowers underrepresented students by providing opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge research. It offers scholarships, stipends, mentorship programs, and more.

– The goal of the Doctoral Scholars Program is to increase the number of minority students who earn doctorates and choose to become faculty at colleges and universities.
The Graduate School partners with the Office of Research to offer Graduate Summer Awards. It is open to graduate students from across the University and is a competitive program that supports a range of original graduate student scholarships, including basic research, field of study, data analysis, performances and exhibitions, and community-based learning initiatives.
The program can be used to support thesis or dissertation projects or other capstone projects at the master’s or doctoral level. The scope of the proposed project should allow the graduate student to produce a measurable research or scholarly product by the end of a minimum of six uninterrupted weeks during the summer months. There are up to 10 awards available of $3,000 each.
– This fellowship program aims to strengthen ties between the scientific community and state government in the Commonwealth of Virginia while encouraging and equipping more scientists and engineers to be effective advisors for public policy in the state of Virginia.
