This seminar examines how Listeria monocytogenes breaches key host barriers including the intestinal epithelium, blood–brain barrier, and placenta by exploiting the Listeria adhesion protein (LAP)–Hsp60 receptor pathway to disrupt host cell junctions. Using in vivo and human-relevant models, the talk highlights distinct, tissue-specific invasion mechanisms beyond classical internalin-mediated entry. The presentation also connects these mechanistic insights to translational applications, including receptor-targeted probiotic therapies and improved strategies for controlling pathogenic biofilms in food systems.
